Welcome to PFER.org. We are Parents for Education Reform. PFER is made up of Parents who want to make a change in our schools, and government for the betterment of our children.
We have lost our rights and we must take them back. The school boards have taken control with no oversite, and they decide what our children learn and do not learn. The government tells the schools what to teach and not teach, and we have no say. We want transparency, and a say in our child’s education.
We are also working to reform the School Lunch Programs, where our children are being fed unhealthy choices during breakfast and lunch. Our children are the future and now is the time to make sure that they have a future. PubMed states that the number of Children with Type 2 diabetes between 10 to 19 years of age has doubled over the past 2 decades in the United States. This is unacceptable, and we have to act now.
My son as well as many others have mental and physical disabilities that require the schools to accommodate to their needs. The Parents Act of 1973 is supposed force the hands of the schools to accommodate all students with Mental and physical needs, but unfortunately the schools make it difficult for parents to ask for it.
As Parents we should have the right to vote on any and all changes, and funding of projects and so on. Yes we choose our school board members but they do not always do what we want them to do. We need more transparency and we deserve the right to vote.
This is Edward, and he is 8 Years old. My son since he was 3 has been extremely rambunctious.
He has been so out of control that it even annoys him. He always says " Daddy, I don't know why I can't behave." He would go to school and we always heard the same thing, "Oh we love Eddie. He is so behaved." Yet when he comes home he is out of control and defiant. I understand Kids are kids but this was over and beyond. He also had problems sleeping. Yes he would go to bed fine and fall asleep fine. But if lets say a bit of lightning struck out side or a dog barked and woke him up? He would be up the rest of the night, and if he was up, everybody in the house was up. Even if he was only asleep for a hour, and there would be no more sleeping the rest of the night for anyone.
We took him to his Pediatrician and were told that he was just normal and don't worry about it, and as for the sleep, just give him Melatonin. We knew better. His attitudes, and constant flopping and flipping around and constant movement were not normal. He would even run around screaming his lungs out and we could not stop him. We always compare it to like an "Ape On Crack". We love him no matter what but this has driven us bonkers. Even the Melatonin didn't work. We kept hounding our doctor till he finally agreed to asses him. He evaluated him and found that he indeed had signs of ADHD. He sent us to a Doctor in Springfield Missouri who also evaluated him and ultimately diagnosed him with not only ADHD, but also ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). Finally we had a diagnosis.
